“I am the mother of a 47-year-old Down syndrome daughter. One of my responsibilities is filling out annual government paperwork for THHS which I frankly find daunting— almost scary! Richard Taylor has been a Godsend in helping me gather the necessary information and putting it in the proper forms to satisfy THHS. He has gone the extra mile, even talking on the phone with my permission, to see that they are satisfied - meeting their deadlines. I felt I was not alone but had a true advocate who would help me to the end as Richard simplified the steps and made the whole process doable for me. I highly recommend his service to anyone who is trying to do their best for their special needs child. ” — Mary Jane Berry
As a busy mother of eight, one of whom has significant special needs, planning the future for our son has always been a top priority. Our son is now 32 years old and ensuring long-term care and stability for him and for those who will care for him in the years ahead-can feel overwhelming. Richard Taylor has been an extraordinary advocate for our family on multiple occasions. The first time we sought his help, Richard encouraged us to pursue SSI benefits so that support would follow his future care.
Richard found the correct agency, called ahead to identify the right contact person for us, and clearly explained every step we needed to take. Because of his guidance and preparation, what could have been intimidating and confusing became manageable. We were amazed at how smoothly Richard helped us navigate such a complex system.
The second time we relied on Richard’s expertise was when our family was contacted after being on a waiting list for 14 years. We were required to make major decisions about which programs would best meet our sons needs currently and in the future. These decisions would affect not only our son, but his caregivers as well. Once again, Richard stepped in as a tireless advocate. He listened carefully, arranged, phone calls-including group calls with multiple agencies, which he was a part of. He asked questions, and helped us understand complex, terminology, benefits, and long-term implications of each option. His deep knowledge of available programs, systems, and resources allowed us to make a truly informed decision and confidently move into the future. Bringing all of this together requires persistence, organization, and compassion. I honestly cannot imagine how we would’ve navigated this process without Richard’s exceptional listening skills, mastery of the system’s involved, determination to find the right people and resources, and unwavering commitment to our sons well-being.
Every individual with special needs-and every family supporting them-deserves a champion like Richard Taylor in their corner. — Cris Klaus – Greenville, Texas
